A Memorable Summer at Kalfaret

For us summer students, the 2026 World Cup summer will be remembered more for the wonderful weeks we spent at Rieber & Søn. From the very first day, we were warmly welcomed by the entire Rieber team, and it didn’t take long before we realized that this was a place where we could learn from very talented people in a pleasant and safe environment.

Over the summer, we’ve been working on a project-based basis in two different teams. Each team has worked on three different projects in addition to a joint project. The fact that all the projects were rooted in the needs of both Rieber & Søn and the management teams at the portfolio companies has given us a sense that our work has had a real impact within these organizations. Together with the portfolio companies, we’ve also had the opportunity to help shape the projects along the way based on our findings.

During the first few weeks, we had the opportunity to meet with several of the portfolio companies, which provided us with many exciting assignments of varying scope. We’ve had the chance to tackle strategic issues, including preparing competitor analyses, market analyses, and go-to-market strategies. In addition, we’ve worked on more quantitative tasks, where we’ve both analyzed various datasets and built models in Power BI. We’ve appreciated working on diverse projects, challenging one another, and brainstorming within our teams.

We have been given the freedom to interpret the issues in our own way and to test various ideas and approaches. This has resulted in a steep learning curve and the freedom to combine creativity with professional expertise. Toward the end, we presented our findings and recommendations to the companies’ management and received positive and insightful feedback. We look forward to continuing to follow the companies we’ve gotten to know.

Outside the office, we've had group dinners and gone mini-golfing. We've become a close-knit group, and we'll long remember the time the whole office sat in the festival tent and watched Norway beat Ivory Coast. The festival tent really lived up to its name!

This summer has given us a new perspective on how such a forward-thinking and dedicated investment firm evaluates both new and existing investments. What we’ll remember most are all the people who, from day one, have given us the opportunity to learn, contribute, and feel like a natural part of the team. We’ve all been in the same boat and helped each other row.
